Energy saving and environmental responsibility are important issues that concern many people, including all of us at Newark Glass and it’s for this reason that we are taking steps to both reduce wastage in our business and improve the energy efficiency of people’s homes.
A few years ago we started working with PVCu recycling companies in order to help to reduce the usage of the amount of raw materials used to produce the profiles we make windows from. The waste from our production process - short offcuts from the plastic profiles - are taken away, ground up and made into new PVC products.
The same is true of our glass offcuts which are recycled into a wide range of other products.
Our windows already comply with Part-L of the building regulations and so are excellent for conserving energy in homes and businesses alike. We use Pilkington K-glass which both reflects heat back into rooms and traps free energy from the sun, this can also be combined with optional warm-edge spacer technology and argon gas filling to create even more efficient units and windows. Even our aluminium windows and doors have a thermal break incorporated into the profile to ensure that heat loss across the frames is kept to a minimum.
As part of this commitment we are working towards achieving a BFRC energy rating for all of our window and door products.
We also care about reducing energy wastage in our extensive new factory by using natural light where possible and making sure we switch the lights and computers off before we go home!
Sustainability and Reduced Wastage
Our wooden ranges only use wood sourced from well managed forests so as to ensure environmental sustainability. Even our brochures are printed on paper from sustainable sources (recycled if possible). For many of these brochures we only print what we need so as to reduce wastage through obsolescence.
Finally we also use advanced computer-aided-manufacturing software and machinery to produce our products which optimise the cutting of the plastic and glass so as to reduce the amount of waste off-cuts, even though these are sent for recycling.
So, as you can see, we are a company that cares about our customers and the environment - a fact that we’re quietly proud of.
