REQUIREMENTS FOR USE OF SAFETY GLASS
Certain critical locations must be glazed using toughened or laminated safety glass. The minimum recommended standard is that toughened glass should be used in all doors or where glazing is less than 800mm from floor level. We are also obliged by law to supply safety glass rather than float glass for glazing in commercial/public buildings, internal doors in homes and for use in certain furniture - we can advise on this at the time of ordering.
See the diagram below for guidance.
REQUIREMENTS FOR BUILDING REGULATIONS PARTS L & K
We can supply windows that comply with building regulations Part L and Part K and we are Fensa registered so you can be assured that all installations fully comply.
Where required we can submit the local authority planning request for you before commencing work (on a conservatory for example) and can advise on the regulations and requirements beforehand.
Our Fensa registration means that we do not need a building control inspection for every installation we carry out but self-certify our work against current building regulations, and to insure that we are doing everything correctly a number of installations are randomly inspected to maintain our registration. Being Fensa registered gives you the peace of mind that all work is being carried out by a professional company and has an insurance backed guarantee.
Once work is complete an installation certificate is sent to you directly from Fensa so that in the future you can prove that your windows and doors comply - if you sell your house for example.
Below are some guidelines regarding safety glass and building regulations parts F & L, these are for guidance only - if in doubt please contact your local authority.
